« With you in mind and heart on the 4th October »

Mes chers Amis,

I send you congratulations and thanks from the English/Welsh Border for mounting this important demonstration.

In May 1950 I drove from Calais down the N7 to St. Tropez. I was absolutely overbowled by the beautiful countryside which was in sharp contrast to the distressing sight of the many battle-torn towns and villages - witness to the sort of ground war that we had not experienced in the UK. I had been educated in a convent in England which was run by French nuns so I was already a francophile but this journey put the seal on my love for your country.

It is ironic that the EU, supposedly designed to prevent further destructive wars in Europe, is now hell-bent on destroying our countries with useless wind turbines which will reduce our beautiful and varying landscapes to a common denominator of mechanical monsters.
No wonder we are at war with their mad, destructive designs.

Good planning is about balance. The irreparable ecological damage, loss of amenity and distressing divisions within communities caused by commercial wind turbines far outweigh any benefit of their insignificant and unreliable contribution to our energy needs.
The tiny, intermittent output of electricity and the negligible CO2 savings cannot possibly justify the huge sacrifice of that most finite resource - our unspoilt and unrenewable countryside. It is our duty to protect our rural heritage for present and future generations from such gross and unnecessary industrialization. The alternative will be a national disaster – no less.

I know that I speak for many when I send you heartfelt wishes for the success of your demonstration – so important to us all.
We stand with you 100% and will be with you in mind and heart on the 4th October.

Yours sincerely,

Angela Kelly,
Chairman, Country Guardian.

4th October

Good luck with your demonstration, just wish I could be with you. However you have support from myself as former acting Chairman of DART (Dorset against Rural Turbines) and I am sure of any other group now fighting against applications currently before the planners in the UK..................Wishing you every success

Support to 4 octobre

To all of the gallant French People fighting the curse of the wind farms - we wish you every success.

  • These monstrous machines do not - can not deliver what is claimed for them
  • They are visually intrusive
  • They invade our peace with their aerodynamic nopise
  • They interrupt our sleep
  • They threaten our health
  • They consume vast amounts of money that should be directed at more effective power generation.
  • Our hearts - and good wishes - are with you.

Mes chers Amis

I wish you the greatest success in your demonstration on October 4th, and wish I could be there alongside you. I know I speak for many artists from all around the world who will be with you in spirit on the day. No country in the world has done more for Art than France, and I am sure Monet, Gaugin, Renoir and many of your greatest artists would be devastated to see the damage that industrial wind turbines can do to precious landscapes.

As my father James Lovelock has said, the countryside is "the face of Gaia." If we want to live in harmony with our planet, we must first learn to treat it with respect. Filling the hills with concrete, and planting them with giant turbines ( that save very little in the way of CO2 emissions) is no way to teach the next generation that we must care about the Earth.

Although I cannot see France from my nearest hill in Devon, I will go out to stand on it at 14.00 hours, to show my support.

This is the Artists Against Wind Farms website, which represents artists from many parts of Britain and the rest of the world - we are still hoping to be joined by some artists from France, so if there are any who read this, please get in touch.
